The airport recently removed all physical barriers at the drop‑off forecourts and instead introduced automatic number‑plate recognition (ANPR) cameras to detect vehicles and trigger billing afterwards.
Payments must be made online or by phone by midnight the following day. If you fail to pay, the registered vehicle holder may receive a Parking Charge Notice (PCN).
Each terminal (T1, T2, T3) has its own forecourt drop‑off area positioned just outside departures so that passengers can unload quickly. These are clearly sign‑posted when you follow signage for the terminal.
For example, the Terminal 1 drop‑off forecourt is directly outside the terminal entrance, while Terminal 2 and Terminal 3 each have their upper forecourt or main entrances with drop‑off points. If you are using the free drop‑off at JetParks 1, you’ll be shuttled in, so it’s less convenient for immediate access but much less costly.
Here are the standard charges for drop‑off at Manchester Airport’s forecourts for Terminals 1, 2 & 3:
The rate is the same regardless of which of the three terminals you go to. Be careful though, staying too long or re‑entering drop‑off zones quickly after leaving can trigger additional charges.
Manchester Airport uses a barrierless ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition) system, which means there are no ticket machines or pay-on-exit barriers. Instead, your vehicle’s registration plate is scanned upon entry to the drop-off zone, and you are expected to make payment by midnight the following day.
There are three ways to pay the drop-off charge:
Failure to pay the drop-off fee on time will likely result in a Parking Charge Notice (PCN), usually around £60 - £100, so it’s important to act promptly.
Manchester Airport offers a free drop‑off zone at JetParks 1. From there, a shuttle bus (which is also free) runs regularly to all three terminals. The trade‑off is walking or waiting time, but for light luggage or just saying quick goodbyes, saving the fiver is definitely worth it.
Another option is to use short‑stay or multi‑storey car parks, if you don’t mind walking or waiting. If you’re going inside the terminal with someone or need more time, these may be cheaper and less stressful than risking an overstay in the forecourt. Pre‑booking some parking in advance can also lead to lower rates.
Always watch the clock. The short time limits in the forecourt zones (5 or 10 minutes) are strictly enforced, overstaying triggers a £25 fee - at that point you might as well just keep your car there overnight.
If you're dropping off someone who might walk slower or has luggage, factor in time or use the free drop‑off zone.
Use the AutoPay system or pre‑register your details; this avoids having to remember to pay manually after your visit. Also ensure your payment method is valid, if your account cannot be charged or payment is missed, you’ll likely receive a PCN. Also pay attention to Blue Badge rules: valid Blue Badge holders can access forecourt drop‑off free of charge (drop‑off only) when presenting the badge to marshals. If you’re a Blue Badge holder, you can book your free parking on the portal.
Manchester Airport has modernised its drop‑off process: there are fixed fees for short stays at the forecourts, a barrierless ANPR system, and options for free drop‑off a little farther out. Knowing the fees, locations, and payment rules can save you needless costs and stress.
But of course, the need for a parking spot requires you to have a car. And if you don’t have one yet and you’re looking to get a car financed, the Halal way, you should make an application with Ayan Capital.
